WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Leading financial forecasters and radio group executives will provide insight on radio’s regulatory and economic future in a session titled “Pillsbury’s Broadcast Finance 2017: Is Radio Ready for a New Deal?,” Wednesday, September 6, from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the 2017 Radio Show in Austin.
Now in its 27th year, this Leadership Breakfast session is again hosted by law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, with breakfast provided by Media Services Group. The Radio Show, produced by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB), takes place September 5-8 at the JW Marriot.
Scott Flick, a partner at Pillsbury, will lead a discussion between top radio business executives and representatives from lending and investment firms regarding recent regulatory changes and what they portend for the industry. This year’s panel features David Benjamin, President and CEO, Benjamin Media Investments, LLC; Kim Guthrie, President, Cox Media Group; Robert Malone Jr., Managing Director, Technology, Media and Telecom, Capital One, N.A.; Beth Neuhoff, President and CEO, Neuhoff Communications; and Jeff Warshaw, CEO, Connoisseur Media, LLC. Prior to the panel, J. Davis Hebert, Director, High Yield Media, Cable and Telecom Research, Wells Fargo Securities, will provide opening remarks.
David Benjamin is president and CEO of Benjamin Media Investments, LLC. In May 2013, Benjamin sold Triad Broadcasting Company, which he founded in 1999 and served as president and chief executive officer. Triad operated 50 middle-market radio stations across 11 states. Benjamin has served as a board member of the NAB as well as the California Broadcasters Association. He is a former president of the Oregon Association of Radio Broadcasters and the RAB.
As a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLP, Scott Flick represents media entities on transactional, regulatory, business, finance, litigation, and policy matters. He has handled over $35 billion in broadcast acquisitions and mergers, and is the founder of CommLawCenter.com. He has represented many of the largest companies in the broadcast industry, and is regularly quoted by both mainstream and trade press on communications law and policy matters.
As president of Cox Media Group (CMG), Kim Guthrie oversees all content, sales and operations for 14 broadcast television stations and more than 60 radio stations, seven daily newspapers, 11 non-daily publications, and more than 100 digital sites and services. During her CMG career, Guthrie has held the titles of senior VP and group VP, overseeing multiple television and radio properties. Guthrie’s stations have won multiple honors for programming excellence and outstanding community service, including several NAB Marconi Radio Awards, Edward R. Murrow Awards, Crystal Awards, New York Air Awards, and Gracie Awards. She has chaired the Radio Show Steering Committee and is on the NAB Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
J. DAVIS HEBERT
J. Davis Hebert is director of Wells Fargo Securities’ High Yield Media, Cable and Telecommunications research sectors. Hebert started with the company in 2007 as an associate analyst covering the healthcare and gaming sectors. Previously, Hebert provided loan underwriting and portfolio management functions for media and telecom entities.
ROBERT MALONE JR.
Robert Malone joined Capital One in April 2016 and currently serves as managing director for Capital One's Technology, Media & Telecom lending platform. In this position, Malone is responsible for originating and structuring senior secured financing to sponsor-backed and corporate clients. Prior to joining Capital One, Malone served as a managing director for GE Capital's Technology, Media & Telecom business. With GE Capital for 15 years, Malone held roles in originations, structuring and underwriting working with sponsor-backed companies and corporate clients across various TMT sectors.
Beth Neuhoff is a senior executive and media, marketing and consumer segmentation expert recognized for creating innovative revenue growth and brand-building strategies in both national and local markets. Serving as CEO of Neuhoff Communications since 2012, Neuhoff has enhanced the privately-held broadcast and digital media company’s operations and increased its value. She serves on the NAB Board, the NAB Board of Directors Executive Committee, and is a director of the Broadcaster's Foundation of America. She also serves as a trustee of the NAB Education Foundation and the NAB Political Action Committee.
Jeff Warshaw is CEO of Connoisseur Media, LLC, which he launched in 2004 and which currently owns 42 radio stations in a variety of markets. Prior to starting Connoisseur Media, Warshaw founded Connoisseur Communications Partners, LP in 1993 and later sold the company, which consisted of 39 radio stations in small to medium-sized markets, to Cumulus Broadcasting in 2000. He is a member of the NAB Radio Board and the RAB Board of Directors.
